What is neurosurgery?

The medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire nervous system. This includes the brain, spine and peripheral nerves that travel through various parts of your body, such as your arms, hands and legs. Sometimes treatment involve surgery.

 

Patients are often referred to a neurosurgeon for consultation if the have the following:

 

  • Back, neck or leg pain that does not improve after 4-6 weeks of conservative treatments
  • Intolerable pain

  • Change in bladder or bowel functions
